Summer is already here. Though summer means sun, swimming, and sandals, it is the perfect time to start summertime home maintenance. We have created a checklist for you and singled out the must-have done points for your home maintenance. So, take a glass of cold water, and let’s get started!

Power Wash Your Driveway and Sidewalks     

Winter passes leaving many damages in sidewalks and driveways with it. That’s why each summer it is important to take care of the sidewalks or give them a new coat of asphalt. This is the key to avoid long-term damages. To do this, power washes the driveway to make sure that the surface is clean. Otherwise, in case of too much dirt, the asphalt won’t set properly. In addition, take a note to work in sections to avoid having the asphalt dry while working.

Clean Out Gutters and Downspouts       

To make your home ready for every season in the year, you should clean out gutters and downspouts at least once a year. Moreover, if there are many trees around your home, it is advisable to have it done twice a year.

There are many methods to clean the gutters, but we’ll recommend you to try the fastest one. To do so, first of all you need to wear a shirt with long sleeves and rubber gloves to not hurt yourself. All you have to do is move the plastic tarp along the ground with you as you move the ladder. When the tarp gets full, just dump the leaves into your compost bin or trash bag.

Wash Windows and Replace Window Screens 

This task is one of the most important in the whole checklist. And by saying wash windows we do not mean the glasses. You need to start with the screens of the windows. Here you’ll need a vacuum to bring up any loose dirt. Further, to remove any lingering debris, just scrub each one with a block of ordinary dish soap.

In terms of windows, you should make a solution that contains hot water and vinegar. Then you’ll need a sponge to wash the windows. After that use a rag to dry them.And only after these steps replace your clean window screens. 

Beautify Your Yard       

Summer is the most awaited part to spend cool evenings in the yard. But take a look at your yard – is it ready for it? Probably not, after a cold and long winter. If there are any signs of damages from the winter, repair them or call a professional for a perfect result. Then make sure that your home paint does not need a touch-up.

At the same time, keep in mind that summer is a perfect time to boost curb appeal. Decorate the front of your home with some flowers and trees. Further, take a look at your lawn, it must be well-cared.   

Clean your attic

No matter the season, if you clean the attic, first of all, you’ll prevent excessive dirt and filth to accumulate. It should be a regular part of home protection. Further, regular attic cleaning can reduce the number of allergens and toxins in the air and lower your monthly utility costs. 

Take out all of the boxes and other things in the attic before you start to clean. Perhaps, vacuum may be one of the things that you’ll definitely need while cleaning. Vacuuming will remove dead insects, dander, dust mites, and allergens from the attic.

Consider checking for molds as well. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish it due to its black or gray colors. Though mold can be also orange, brown, and green. The main signs of mold are specific smell and moisture. Moreover, metal may become discolored because of mold in the attic. Don’t forget to put on a mask during the cleaning process to prevent allergen and asthma processes.

Wipe Down and Clean Baseboards

You have probably never heard about cleaning baseboards as a task for home cleaning. But we have decided to include it in our checklist to make your home sparkle and ready for summer. There are many ways to clean the baseboards such as using a box of cleaning wipes, dryer sheets, etc.

In the case of baseboards, it is necessary to understand how often it should be done? Well, a home with lots of fur and hair should consider doing it once a week. But in the case of small houses and regular cleaning twice a week will be enough.
