Hold and Win, MegaWays, Book Slots – What’s the Difference?

There are many different types of internet slots out there for you to explore that it can be challenging to know what is hot to play and what isn’t. Fortunately, you don’t have to venture far to seek out answers. We’ll explain MegaWays and Hold and Win games, we’ll look at book slots and Cluster Pays releases and explain all. Read on to find out more.

    The MegaWays Slot Craze

You shouldn’t need much of an introduction to MegaWays games. After all, these titles are renowned. They can be found in virtually all major casinos across Europe and beyond. They feature (normally) at least 117,649 ways to win and are notable for offering expanding paylines, increasing multipliers for chained wins, and being highly volatile slot games.

Hold, and Win Games Are on the Rise

Hold and Win games are on the rise. The games utilise a different type of gaming mechanic to MegaWays. They can still offer thousands of paylines or a more conventional figure. The primary difference comes in the form of a re-spins round. Here, players can “collect” symbols (while the other reels are blank). The basic idea here is to win big cash prizes by collecting the same symbols across the entire screen.

Book Slots Are Open and Shut

Book slots have been popular for a while now. They originate a lot further back than you might imagine. While Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead is renowned for making them popular, they started with the Book of Ra over five years earlier. The basic premise in these games is that there are ten lines and a scatter wild (which is usually a book symbol). During the bonus, a second symbol can be chosen to expand on the reels whenever it appears.

    Cluster Pays Fading in Popularity

Then we have Cluster Pays high stakes slots. These games were first developed by NetEnt, and while they have similarities with MegaWays games (surrounding collapsing reels), they are different in that there are no “ways to win” as such. Instead, symbols are grouped together to result in epic wins being paid out. Some games even do away with reels, to boot, resulting in a Candy Crush-style game.

    Legendary Collapsing Reels

Finally, let us end by talking about Collapsing Reels slots. Also known as cascading reels, tumbling reels, avalanche reels and other names, the notion behind them remains the same. You’re looking at a format whereby every win sees the symbols removed and new ones drop down to replace them. These games are often supporting a wealth of features, including multipliers, but also special wilds and free spin bonuses where those multipliers tend to be worth more. Some games, such as MegaWays and Hold and Wins, may try to incorporate collapsing reels features into their gaming mechanics, but they are also their own genre of slots.
