In construction projects today, it is almost impossible not to find a concrete pump on site. Since their introduction to the market, concrete pumps have become essential equipment in all project sites of different scales. Whether you are renting or buying a concrete pump, there are two kinds to choose from. Let’s go through each of them to find the perfect equipment for you:
Concrete Line Pump
Also known as a Stationary Pump, this type of concrete pump is used in small to medium scale projects due to its compact design, making it easy to move around and transport. It has a lower volume capacity which makes it ideal for residential projects or project sites with a smaller working area. Typically, line pumps are attached to a trailer or a truck during transportation.
A concrete line pump is characterized by a long hose that is best used for concreting horizontal areas. And since concrete line pumps are more miniature than boom pumps, it has a lower pumping rate but can still do its job effectively.
Concrete Boom Pump
Compared to Line Pumps, Boom pumps are relatively bigger and are more effective flow rate-wise. This type of pump is typically used in large-scale projects such as high-rise buildings and civil works like bridges. Boom pumps provide a more accurate pumping experience since it is computer configured and is designed to provide a more precise pumping experience; that is why it is costly to invest in one.
Boom pumps are truck-mounted, making them easy to transport. It does not require much effort in line placement, which may reduce your labor costs without compromising productivity. The only downside to using one is that it requires so much space, making it more ideal for significant developments. Like a line pump, boom pumps allow contractors to pour concrete into higher-level areas or obstructed sections. The only difference is that it’s bigger, could reach higher sections, and has a built-in transport system.
The decision between getting a boom pump or a line pump depends significantly on the size of the project’s requirement – use a Line Pump for smaller projects and a Boom Pump for large-scale developments. It is typical for large-scale developments to be on a tight schedule. That is why it would be better to use a boom pump that pumps more concrete in a shorter amount of time. For smaller projects, it would be better to use a Line Pump since it allows more flexibility, especially for smaller spaces. Lastly, always remember to consider your budget. It is costly to invest or hire any of the two types of pumps. Always go for the kind that would not compromise your overall allocated budget.
