Gambling has and will always be a part of human culture simply because our nature is to take risks to get a reward. From the beginning of time, we have always found shortcuts that help us cut out the boring stuff so that we can save time to spend on the things that we love doing – click to visit phonecasino.

Gambling, in the modern sense, is no different from that. Who wants to spend eight hours a day sitting at an office just to earn a morsel when they could be making one hot spin that wins them a lifetime supply of cash?

Ireland is no different from this rule and gambling has been legal there for quite some time. We want to take you through what gambling actually means to people and to what capacity gambling is legal in Ireland.

    What does Gambling Really Mean?

Whether you see gambling in a positive light, or as a detriment to human nature, it will always be ingrained into our culture. Ireland has made gambling legal for almost 100 years now and prior to that, Irish gambling laws were particularly blasé.

Before we get into the legalities of Ireland’s gambling, however, we have to first define what gambling means definitively and to people:

Definition By definition, gambling is the exchange of wagering something that has value to both parties with an outcome that is uncertain and not pre-ordained in the pursuit of winning something of more value.

Examples of gambling Gambling can be placed on almost anything, however, there are generally a few kinds of games that people will tend to bet on. Casino games such as roulette, slot machines, poker, and blackjack are the most common forms of in-house betting. After that, there are sports bets such as football, rugby, and, one of Ireland’s most preferred gambles, horse racing.
How does it work? The idea is that you place a certain amount of money, or an item with mutual value, on an event that you think will happen. The vendor, or ‘bookie’, will entice you to place money down by offering you an odd. If the event occurs and you placed a wager on it then your wager is multiplied by that odd. If the event does not occur then your wager will be set into the hands of the bookie.

It is that final point that has made gambling legal in Ireland because, without the legalisation of gambling, Irish bookies would be unmoderated.

What are the Main Irish Gambling Laws?

In the 1920s, Ireland went through a massive reformation of its gambling laws and they have been evolving ever since.

Here are just some of the main laws around gambling in Ireland:

    •         Age – Just like in most countries, in Ireland you cannot gamble if you are under the age of 18
    •         Limits – There are certain wagering limits that are in place in Ireland so that only professional gamblers can spend a set amount
    •         Gambling under the influence – Although it seems like such a good idea to gamble when drunk, it is illegal to gamble whilst intoxicated in Ireland.
